Pharmaceutical Chemistry

The Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry provides profound theoretical knowledge to the students and shape them into professionals with technical competence by intensive training. Our mission is to inculcate confidence in our students by adopting an interactive teaching methodology, through which they are made to understand the fundamentals of chemistry and to create a conductive environment. The department imparts in-depth knowledge about all the chemical aspects of drugs and natural products, such as structure, synthesis, isolation and structural activity relationship with Pharmacological activity. The department is comprised of all major branches of pharmaceutical chemistry starting from basic organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, analytical and phytochemistry.

The objective is that at the end of the programme, the students should be able to apply their knowledge of the fundamental concepts and principles of Inorganic, Physical, Medicinal and Analytical Chemistry to pharmaceuticals and then relate these concepts to drug synthesis, manufacturing and quality assurance in the practice of pharmacy.
